| Gore Cottage has been inspected by the
West Country Tourist Board.
West Milton is a conservation area in
an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" and Gore Cottage
is listed as being a "Building of Special Architectural Interest
Grade II". The countryside is ideal for bird watching and
walking. Standing on its own in its own secluded garden
on the edge of West Milton, the cottage is stone built with a
thatched roof and porch. It sleeps five, plus a cot: upstairs
there are two double rooms one with a double bed, the other with
two singles, and a single room downstairs, which is the room with
the telephone; the compact bathroom (with full sized bath and
basin) and separate WC and washbasin are also downstairs. The
kitchen is large enough to eat in and there is a separate sitting
room with a multi-fuel stove. There is another WC in the thached
garden shed.
There is a garage at the end of the lane
and parking for a second car on the concrete apron. There is then
a walk of about 200 yards along the footpath, across the foot
bridge over the stream, to get to the cottage.
The cottage is fully equipped and all the appliances
are electric: cooker, microwave, fridge and automatic washing
machine. The electricity - light, heating and hot water - is included
in the rent. There is a telephone. Pillows, blankets and eiderdowns
are provided. Sheets, pillow cases and towels can all be hired.
There is a selection of books, maps and guide books in the cottage.
The Dorset and East Devon coast, the Jurassic
Coast, has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; West
Milton is five miles from the coast at West Bay, Bridport's harbour.
Other beaches are at Burton Bradstock and Seatown, with Weymouth
and Lyme Regis being further away. Riding, fishing and golf are
available in the area. Places to visit include the gardens of
Mapperton and Minterne, the Swannery at Abbotsbury, and houses
such as Forde Abbey and Athelhampton.
The caretaker lives in Bridport.
